Inktkussentjes zonder vuile handen
Sinds het begin van de twintigste eeuw domineert
Underwood de markt met zijn voorkloppers. Hierbij heeft de typist vrij zicht op wat hij typt. Alle andere fabrikanten moeten noodgedwongen dit systeem
overnemen of zichzelf eigenhandig uit de markt werken.
Toch zwemmen sommigen tegen de stroom in, zoals Robert Fabig
met zijn Rofa, die pas in 1921 in Duitsland op de markt komt! Het is een
neerklopper zoals de Imperial, met inktkussentjes
die de typist kan vervangen zonder zijn handen vuil te maken. Ondanks zijn achterhaalde design wordt de Rofa een klinkend
succes, door de enorme vraag naar schrijfmachines na de Grote Oorlog.
Vervangbaar toetsenbord
De eerste Rofa's hebben een gebogen toetsenbord, deze Rofa 4 een recht. Op
dit model kun je ook de typekorf met enkele bewegingen vervangen (bijv. voor een
ander lettertype).
Ink cushions without dirty hands
Since the beginning of the twentieth century,
Underwood dominates the market with its 'front strikers'. With these, the
typist has a clear view of what he types. All other manufacturers are forced to
take over this system or to push themselves out of the market.
Yet some swim against the tide, like Robert Fabig does with his
Rofa that only comes onto the market in Germany in 1921! It is a 'down striker'
like the Imperial, with ink cushions that the typist
can change without getting dirty hands. In spite of its outmoded design, the
Rofa is a resounding success due to the huge demand for typewriters after the
Great War.
Replaceable keyboard
The first Rofas have a curved keyboard, this Rofa 4 a straight one. With a
few simple actions, the type basket can also be changed on this model (e.g. for
one with another type face).
