Italiaan vervoegt de draagbare club
De Europese producenten haken veel later in op de 'Portable'-trend dan de
Amerikaanse. Na Erika in 1927 en Continental in 1929,
springt Olivetti in 1932 op de 'draagbare' boot met zijn MP1 (Modello
Portatile 1). Beter bekend als de 'Ico', het acroniem van 'Ingegnere Camillo
Olivetti' - de stichter van Olivetti.
Aldo Magnielli ontwerpt de MP1 in de gestileerde Art Deco-stijl.
De Ico is een schot in de roos en, door zijn eenvoud, van
alle tijden: pas in 1950 wordt hij uit productie genomen. Er zijn er dan 139.706
van gemaakt in het zwart, rood,
grijs en bruin - en enkele andere kleuren
(zoals hemelsblauw) op
bestelling van speciale klanten.
Dit exemplaar is de Simplex-naamvariant (zonder
rood-zwartomschakeling).
Italian joins the portable club
 The European manufacturers zero in on the 'Portable' trend much
later than the Americans. After Erika in 1927 and
Continental in 1929, Olivetti jumps on the portable bandwagon with its MP1 (Modello
Portatile 1) in 1932. This is better known as the 'Ico', an acronym for 'Ingegnere
Camillo Olivetti' - the founder of Olivetti.
Aldo Magnielli designs the MP1 in stylized Art Deco.
The Ico strikes gold and is timeless because of its simplicity;
it is only taken out of production in 1950. By
that time, 139,706 have been made in black, red,
grey and brown - plus a few other colors (such
as sky-blue) ordered by special clients.
This specimen is the Simplex-name variant (without red-black
changeover).
